A Broad Horizon

I climbed a ridge to view far-distant scenes.
But fog hung shroudlike over all the land
And masked surrounding hilltops and ravines.

I sought escape from obstacles at hand,
But at this height my outlook still was blurred.
The cause of this I prayed to understand.

I found my limitations self-incurred.
All trials originate within the mind;
To run away from problems is absurd.

Then instantly I knew why I'd been blind!
A smoldering hatred must be cleared away.
I looked about me and rejoiced to find

The fog had vanished, and before me lay
The broad horizon I had sought that day!
