Waverly, New York (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Waverly, dedicated its edifice on Sunday, December 3, 1944.

Special services were held at eleven o'clock in the morning and at four o'clock in the afternoon.

A brief history of the church organization was reviewed at the services, and follows in part:

"The first Christian Science services in Waverly, New York, were held in a home on Cadwell Avenue in 1897. In 1899 a Christian Science Society was organized. In 1903 services were held at 414 Waverly Street.

"In 1917 a Sunday school was opened in a home on Lincoln Street. The Sunday school outgrew its quarters four years later and was held in the Masonic Temple thereafter. Regular Sunday church services began in the Temple in 1923, and Wednesday evening meetings followed one year later.

"First Church of Christ, Scientist, Waverly, was organized in 1928, and held its services in what was known as the old Merriam block on Waverly Street. In 1934 the church purchased the home at 431 Park Avenue and remodeled it."—The Waverly Sun.
