I am grateful for the love and divine protection my daughter and I have received through the help of Christian Science during the past two years. Our home was in Singapore. As the enemy approached the city our chances of getting away became increasingly remote, since ships were not able to come into the harbor on account of the heavy air raids.

I cabled a Christian Science practitioner in America, asking her to take up protective work for us.

Ten days later the cable office telephoned to say that they had not sent my cable, because they did not understand its wording. I tried to explain the contents of it, but was told they had one thousand cables waiting to be sent, and if f wished mine to go I must call in person at the cable office. This was difficult for me to do, for our bungalow was about seven miles out of town. The road was in a direct firing line and air activity was continuous. I felt this was a direct call for me to take a firm stand, and to know and declare the truth about the whole situation.
