Christian Science Committee on Publication for Southern California Reports

Although the press is now restricted by newsprint curtailment orders, most editors continue to use our publicity with gratifying regularity.

There are approximately three hundred representative newspapers in Southern California. During the past year two hundred and twenty of them have published, in part or in full, the weekly Lesson-Sermon excerpts prepared by this office. The "Gems of Thought" service, which consists of outstanding statements by great writers, and which always includes one from our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, is used by eightysix newspapers. Religious articles from The Christian Science Monitor were reprinted on two hundred and forty-one occasions in thirty-five newspapers. Partial or full reports of Christian Science lectures were carried by one hundred and ninety-five papers.

Our publicity serves as an invitation to the stranger to learn more about Christian Science. An Assistant Committee on Publication reports that a mother and her daughter, who were both looking for a satisfying religion, became interested in Christian Science by reading the Lesson-Sermon excerpts in their local paper. The daughter enrolled in the Sunday school, and both have become earnest students of Christian Science.
