Good News

A Woman who recently came to Christian Science for healing had, like the woman in the Scriptures, "suffered many things of many physicians, ... and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse" (Mark 5:26). Finally in desperation, and as a last resort, she turned to Christian Science. She had never seen the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; she had never been in a Christian Science church, and had never known of a healing in Christian Science. But she had heard that Christian Science is a religion which heals by prayer, and she thought that it could surely do her no harm and possibly it might help her. So she sought out a practitioner and told her story of failure and pain.

Compassionately the practitioner assured her of God's unfailing power and love, available here and now. "Perhaps God's power and love are available for some people," the woman replied, with tears rolling down her cheeks, "for those who have worshiped Him and loved Him; but not for one who has ignored Him and broken His Commandments."

The practitioner quoted Mrs. Eddy's words from Science and Health (p. 13), "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals." Then she said: "God's love is available to you too. The very fact that you have sought Him is proof that you have faith in Him, and although your faith may be small, still those who trust Him the Bible says, shall be delivered." Then, opening the textbook, she read to her the very first words in the Preface (p vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings."
