Letters to the Press from Christian Science Committees on Publication

The author of an article appearing under the series, "This is my Faith," states erroneously that Christian Science does not place emphasis on the plain statements of the Scriptures. I would point out that the first tenet of this Science reads (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 497): "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

It is difficult to understand how the writer of the article in question has arrived at the conclusion that Christian Science does not place emphasis on the Scriptures. From her childhood, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, was an earnest student of the Bible. When the light of Christian Science flooded her consciousness, it was through reading the opening verses of Matthew 9 that the understanding was gained which proved beyond doubt that the Scriptures, when understood spiritually, will heal the sick.
