Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

On entering this area I had no idea what the conditions of transportation might be, either regarding the civilian ban or the troop movements on the road. No question was ever raised with regard to the former, but I soon began to realize that the latter might prove a formidable obstacle. I had been warned by a Wren that roads to my destination were constantly blocked. The day before I went there I had occasion to ring up the Automobile Association and mentioned the city, and they said they thought it would be quite impossible to get there. The next morning I had a perfectly clear run through, made even easier than usual, as all the way was marked clearly with a military route number.
