I wish to express gratitude for a testimony I heard calling attention to Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (p. 399), "If Mind is the only actor, how can mechanism be automatic?" With further study of this passage, it came to me, If Mind is the only actor, how can the structure or arrangement of any kind of machine have the power of self-action, since Mind transcends all other claims to power? There is no power but God.

How powerfully practical this action of spiritual understanding can become, was indicated during the first World War, when investigation showed that many of the bombs dropped during an air raid buried themselves harmlessly in the ground without exploding, and upon investigation it was found that the mechanism of the bomb was in perfect condition. The investigators were unable to explain this, but who would dare to say it was not the protecting hand of God? In the fourth chapter of Daniel we read (v. 35), "None can stay his hand, or say unto him. What does thou?" Having a loved one in service. I am grateful for this spiritual enlightenment.

I should like also to express gratitude for a physical healing. Late one afternoon I was stricken with what would be termed neuritis. I was unable to rise from a chair or walk without assistance. I worked mentally to the best of my understanding. Friends coming into the home that afternoon gave kindly and well-meant advice. One person said that the only remedy he knew was serum treatments. Another said that having my teeth extracted would probably remove the cause, but all the while this well-meant advice was being given, the words from Hebrews (4:12) kept coming to me, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
