Safety
Many today are crying out: What is safety? Where does it lie? How may I be safe? How may I be sure that my loved one is safe? Divine Science alone affords the answer to these and similar questions.
Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 298). "The true consciousness is the true health." Health or wholeness is related in its root derivation to the word "safety." In "the true consciousness" is true safety. Safety is wholly mental, a state of spiritual consciousness. It consists in a knowledge or understanding of God. It is in what we know of being, not in what we appear to be doing.
True safety is not a fortuitous combination of outside circumstances, nor is it found in material devices, theories, or ingenuity. It is unlocalized and forever present, a divine state of Mind. Jesus, our great Exemplar, was safe in the presence of the angry mob ready to cast him over the brink of the hill, in the tumult of the storm, in contact with contagion. His reappearance after the crucifixion proved that even in what appeared to personal sense as tragedy and death he was untouched and safe. Before the divine consciousness or Christ, which constituted his real selfhood, every aggressive phase of evil vanished into its native nothingness.
