Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

[From a Serviceman]

For a long time I have wanted to add my word of praise and thanks to the many other expressions of gratitude for the work of the Christian Science Camp Welfare Activities.

My first taste of the Army was in the California desert—with my present unit, an armored division —when it seemed hard indeed to absorb the first lessons of Army training and Army relationships under the rigors of life in the field. But only a few days after my arrival, I learned from a chaplain of regular Christian Science meetings, held by a Christian Science Wartime Minister. That evening I pushed my head doubtfully through the covered door of the chaplain's tent, to find a small group gathered around a stove and lantern with the familiar books— the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy—at hand.
