I should like to express gratitude...
I should like to express gratitude to our Father-Mother God for Christian Science and to acknowledge the benefits which it has bestowed upon me. I attended my first Wednesday evening testimony meeting in 1923, and in the same year a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was given to me by a relative.
A nervous breakdown caused by residence in the tropics and loss of employment, due to retrenchment in the plantation rubber industry in 1930, after many years of prosperity, made me seek healing in Christian Science. After a few treatments from a practitioner, the smoking and drinking habits were easily discarded. With further help, I was encouraged to continue seeking a solution to the problem of unemployment. In my first business venture I was not successful, and it became necessary for me to secure regular salaried employment. With loving help from another practitioner, the need was met. Meanwhile, supply from other sources continuously increased. Thus I learned in some degree the truth of our Leader's statement in Science and Health (p. 60), "Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul."
I have enjoyed excellent health since taking up the study of Christian Science. One summer I was stung by bees, resulting in an eruption over my entire body. In a few hours, through obedience to the statements in the paragraph beginning, "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea," (ibid., p. 495), I was completely freed from the skin condition and any sense of discomfort.
