Substance Is Ever Active

The question, "What is substance?" is like the question, "What is Life, and what is Truth?" All three terms are synonymous. Substance is dynamic, not static. Substance is active, not passive. Substance is God, and God is substance. Because God is the sum of life and action, substance is always living and acting.

Christian Science teaches that matter is never substance, whether it be dust or diamonds. The temporary value attached by mortals to material things is no evidence of their substantiality. Says Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 468), "Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay." And she adds, "Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance."

Now Spirit, God, is Life, and Life is omniactive. Therefore, substance is omniactive. The activity of substance is found in the activity of intelligence, Mind, for substance is Mind. When we think of and look for substance, let us not look to mindless, lifeless matter, material possessions or things, even those called pay checks!
