My introduction to Christian Science...
My introduction to Christian Science came through witnessing the healing of my ten-year-old son. For a long time he had been in and out of the hospital. He had undergone an operation, which brought him no relief, and then he began rapidly to lose weight. On being sent back to the hospital to be kept under observation, he developed diphtheria. Hardly had he recovered from this when he became very ill again with chicken pox in its most severe form. The doctor told me that absolutely nothing more could be done for him, and said that it was a wonder he was still living. At this point a student of Christian Science advised me to go to a Christian Science practitioner.
Although I had never heard of Christian Science before, I went to a practitioner and told her all about it. That afternoon, during our talk, I learned that my son could not be shut out from the presence of God. This first glimpse of Truth was indeed a revelation, and I went home feeling I was walking on air. I followed faithfully the instructions given me, and began to study the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. From the Bible I studied the ninety-first Psalm. The chapter entitled "Fruitage" in Science and Health interested me most at the period, because it revealed to me that Christian Science really proves Jesus' teachings.
The truth about God and man, declared and realized, was made manifest in the complete healing of this boy. On the fifth day after Christian Science treatment was started he was permitted to run around the grounds. Fourteen days from the time I asked for Science help he was home again, a picture of sturdy boyhood.
