My gratitude to God for the...

My gratitude to God for the purity, logic, and dependability of Christian Science is inexpressible. In 1929. my younger sister married a man whose mother was a Christian Scientist, and became quite convinced of the infinite power disclosed by this marvelous teaching. On my rare contacts with her we talked about Christian Science. The outcome of these conversations was that she presented me with a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. While I was grateful for the loving thought which prompted the gift. I was determined to read the book only in order to point out the fallibility of its teaching to my sister, who, it seemed to me, was losing her head on the subject of Christian Science.

For three years, however, I never even opened the book. When at last I did begin the study of Science and Health in order to show my sister where it was wrong, I reached the solid conviction that it unfolded the truth, the infallible law of Life. I studied this holy teaching word by word, phrase by phrase, and sentence by sentence, often until three o'clock in the morning.

At the end of three weeks I had read the textbook through three times, and, in spite of almost constant study, was not using glasses, which had always seemed necessary to prevent headaches from eyestrain. I did not remember when I had last worn them or where they were; never did I find them or need them again. I was lifted out of many difficulties to the extent of completely forgetting that they ever claimed to exist, until reminded by those who knew me at that time, and who later made inquiries as to how I had overcome various physical conditions.
