Love's Promises

To him that overcometh,
Love's precious promise reads;
He shall, in garments white arrayed.
Serenely stand and unafraid
Sing praise to God, nor be dismayed
By superstition's creeds.

To him that overcometh.
The gracious gift is given,
That he shall have the hallowed bread,
The manna that sustained and fed
The Israel host whom prophets led
From slavery up to Canaan.

To him that overcometh.
Love's rich rewards are given,
That he shall see the morning star
Whose glory nought can dim or mar.
The truths which prophets glimpsed afar
While seeking things of heaven.

Gird us, dear God, for battle,
To conquer every wrong.
Thus shalt Thou bless, as Thou hast said,
With holy light, with heavenly bread;
For grief we shall find joy instead,
Clad in Thine armor strong.
