I wish to express gratitude to God for Christian Science, and for the many healings received in our home.

I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, although I was much in need of it, nor was it a search for happiness. My desire was to know just what Christian Science is and to understand more about God.

As a child and young woman I suffered greatly from sick headaches, and could never enjoy games or social activities as other young people did without becoming ill. Years later my health failed me. I suffered from loss of strength and weight, and was unable to care for my family of two children. We moved to the mountains and remained there six months before going on to California. Just before we left, a large swelling which appeared on one knee was pronounced tubercular by the doctors. I became very anemic and was soon confined to my bed. After trying many remedies offered by various doctors, and finding myself no better, I became discouraged with their method of treatment, but still had nothing to turn to until a friend in the East heard of my illness and sent me a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel, which I read and reread.
