Man's Completeness

Man is complete and perfect. This teaching of Christian Science may seem startling to mortal thought and will be challenged by the materialist. Nevertheless, it is a fundamental truth, one that can be proved and used in the solution of all human problems.

Christian Science interprets the Bible from a spiritual standpoint. It reveals that man and the universe are created by God. Spirit, and therefore must be spiritual, as indicated by the record of creation in the first chapter of Genesis. This grand Biblical narrative informs us that "God created man in his own image," and that He looked on all that He had made and found it "very good." The account continues, "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them." In commenting on this verse, Mary Baker Eddy has written in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 519), "Thus the ideas of God in universal being are complete and forever expressed, for Science reveals infinity and the fatherhood and motherhood of Love."

God's work is done. His creation finished, all of His ideas expressed. No detail is missing, no essential thing lacking. God is forever providing all that is essential to the health, happiness, and well-being of His child. Man as the highest idea of God, the beloved son of the heavenly Parent, is perfect, whole, complete, and eternal. This is the fact of being, which cannot be changed, but stands through time and eternity-Man is as God made him; so he must be, and will forever remain.
