Burn the Tares!

A woman had, for some years, been afflicted with recurring back trouble. As a student of Christian Science, she had prayed earnestly to realize freedom from this affliction, A crisis developed when, on arising one morning, she felt as though a part of her spine were gone. Only with the assistance of relatives could she move into the living room, where she slumped helpless into a chair.

During the day and on into the night she worked, but relief did not come. At last with greater humility she asked God to show her His way to find her healing. She knew she was now willing to give up whatever phase of error was binding her.

Quietly came the answer to her prayer—she must rid her consciousness of the bitterness she had been holding against one in her family who was a drunkard. Earnestly and eagerly she applied the teaching of Christian Science to do this. She thought of Jesus' parable about the need of separating the tares from the wheat—error's lies from Truth's facts. She recalled his command. "Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them." She declared that man's only true being is God's own image, the individual expression of eternal Spirit, Mind, spiritual and perfect, superior to all and every form of sinful material belief. She felt comforted and more at peace. But still she could not move. Satan still bound her.
