Wait upon the Lord
What
is it to wait upon the Lord?
Is it to fret the while, or idly dream?
To grow discouraged with the lapse of years
To find we outlined but a mortal scheme?
Is it to watch with lamed expectancy
Fulfillment of some longed-for human good?
Is it to want without the will to do?
Or is it to let Christ be understood?
To know thyself as Jesus knew the Christ,
Given all power to break the bonds of fear;
Walking the way of God because he knew
That God is Love and Love alone is here.
This was the light that set the tomb aglow—
Light of the world! There is no darkened space.
Thick clouds prove not there is no sunshine bright.
All that is made is held in God's embrace.
So, know thyself—thus, wait upon the Lord.
