It is with joy that I express sincere...

It is with joy that I express sincere gratitude for Christian Science, and for the many blessings which have been mine through its study and application.

From childhood I can truthfully say that I have never felt very far from God, and I greatly appreciate the religious training in a Christian Science Sunday School, which gave me this sense of being near to God and under His care. I well remember my childhood declaration, "God is Love," confidently applied to any and every inharmonious circumstance. This early training in and practice of Christian Science has protected me from much unnecessary knowledge of material things, which we have sooner or later to lay aside as we "draw nigh to God." This I have always been able to do, feeling the beneficial effects of God's nearness.

I am also grateful that I have learned the value of being mentally prepared beforehand to meet situations which come to all of us. I had one unforgettable experience in this connection, when a piece of hat wire ran completely through my right thumb and thumbnail. I recall that the thought immediately came to me, "Well, matter passing through matter is certainly nothing." I had a sense of being completely apart from this occurrence, actually feeling that the thumb was not even a part of me. I removed the wire and suffered no effects from the incident, although it was necessary immediately after this for me to shake hands with dozens of people in a large gathering. I gave the incident not another thought at the time, but many times since I have recalled its lesson with gratitude.
