On Hallowed Ground

When human hopes delude and joys deceive,
When storms of mortal sense confound and bliss beguiles,
When sunny gardens seem but barren isles,
Awake! The senses ever falsely thus aggrieve
And strive to make mendacities astound.
Unbind the sandals from your feet. Applaud
That holy light grown strong to pierce the flimsy mist.
Look up! The place whereon you stand is sacred ground;
Depart from mortal sense and find eternal God.
