In the course of the twenty-five years which have passed since I first began the study of Christian Science I have experienced or witnessed gratefully many beautiful instances of the healing and protecting power of Christian Science both in my home and in my business. The accumulation of these instances has long since convinced me that in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has shown us the way and has given us the means to gain a knowledge of Truth, which the Master said would make us free.

Looking back over the years, I can say with certainty that in no comparable period have I been given so many infallible proofs of the protection and guidance of God in my affairs as since the present international storm broke in September, 1939.

When the attack on London began in 1940, it was not long before the roof of the building in which my offices are situated, was set on fire in the night by incendiaries, and one of these bombs came through the window of the room next to that which I occupy and fell upon the floor close to a wooden writing desk in which were stored a number of valuable papers. The incendiary burned a large hole in the carpet, linoleum, and floor boards, but beyond scorching the desk and a chair did no further damage and ultimately fell through to a stone floor below and burned itself out there. On two subsequent occasions the same building was hit by large high-explosive bombs, and much of it was destroyed, but on neither occasion did my offices suffer any damage beyond the breakage of windows and partitions; and no telephones, office furniture, books, or papers were damaged.
