I shall appreciate space in which to reply to certain statements made in your columns in response to a recent letter by me.

Those of your readers who have taken exception to my letter will recall that it was written solely to convey the change in Mark Twain's attitude toward Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, and that it did not in any way voice the opinion of Mrs. Eddy, or that of any Christian Scientist on the subject matter contained therein.

In quoting the statement contained in "Mark Twain, a Biography," by Albert Bigelow Paine, and reaffirmed by Clara Clemens, Mark Twain's daughter, in her book, "My Husband Gabrilowitsch," this writer used it exactly as did Dr. Lyman Powell, an eminent Episcopal clergyman, on page 40 of his book, "Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait." Dr. Powell publishes the same quotation, without comment, to show the complete change of thought in one who had been extremely antagonistic towards Christian Science.
