Among General Montgomery's final words to his staff at the South-Eastern Command headquarters before he left for Egypt were: "Gentlemen, I read my Bible every day and I recommend you to do the same." This was disclosed by the Rev. A. T. A. Naylor, Assistant Chaplain-General, South-Eastern Command, at a remembrance day parade service.
