Invoking the Infinite of Good

It has been alleged that Christian Scientists, since they hold evil to be unreal, ignore its illusive advances and blandishments. Quite the contrary is the case. The intelligent recognition of evil for the impostor it is, constitutes an important feature of Christian Science practice. Far from overlooking the fanciful designs and allurements of evil, the Christian Scientist exposes their fraudulency and futility by invoking the infinitude of good.

With her usual keenness of discernment, Mary Baker Eddy observes, on page 346 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "It is sometimes said that Christian Science teaches the nothingness of sin, sickness, and death, and then teaches how this nothingness is to be saved and healed. The nothingness of nothing is plain; but we need to understand that error is nothing, and that its nothingness is not saved, but must be demonstrated in order to prove the somethingness—yea, the allness—of Truth."

Evil in all its variety of insinuation argues to us from time to time and seeks admission to our lives. But the deception, which evil surely is, cannot gain entrance unless we consent. In itself evil is inert, unintelligent, illusory. We should affirm these verities and act accordingly.
