It is with a deep sense of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy that I write this testimony of the healing power of divine Love.

Many years ago, I became interested in Christian Science by attending a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, where I listened with much interest to the readings from the desk and the testimonies of healing. I purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy the next morning, and read all day as I traveled on the train. Before I had finished the first chapter, on Prayer, I knew I had found the "pearl of great price," and did not doubt the truth of all I read.

My first healing was of the effects of ivy poisoning. I was living in a small town where people knew very little of Christian Science but manifested much hatred for what they thought it was. My case was reported to the mayor of the town, who insisted that a physician be employed. A Christian Science practitioner was called from a near-by city, and the moment she entered the house I felt a great sense of calm. She repeated the ninety-first Psalm and gave me a treatment. The swelling in my face went down quickly, and I was almost instantly healed. I can see now that this was not just a physical healing; it was a healing of fear, ignorance, and hatred of Truth.
