I was about nineteen when I...
I was about nineteen when I turned to Christian Science for help. A year or so before this my father had been healed of inflammatory rheumatism by Science, after all material aid had failed. My first healing was of jaundice and a serious gall bladder condition from which a physician said I would be many months recovering. I asked for treatment from the practitioner who had helped my father, and in a short time I was completely free from this ailment. I then began attending the Christian Science Sunday School.
For many years I had worn glasses with thick, dark lenses, and just before becoming interested in Science had gone to an oculist for stronger ones. I was told that soon I should not be able to get glasses powerful enough to do me any good, because I had astigmatism, farsightedness, conjunctivitis, and a muscular defect, all of which were apt to grow worse as I got older. I had been attending the Christian Science Sunday School for about three months when I awakened one morning so clearly realizing I no longer needed glasses that I immediately laid them aside. That was many years ago, and I have never since needed them. About five years ago an oculist told me that my eyesight was perfect.
Another healing for which I am profoundly grateful took place over eighteen years ago, when my only child was born. Everything pointed to a premature birth, and the attending physician told my husband to send for my parents, because I should probably not live. This physician also said that if the baby were born alive, which he doubted, its head would be badly deformed. Work was immediately taken up by a consecrated practitioner. For two nights this practitioner worked all night long. At the right time a healthy and normally formed baby was born, and in a very short time I had completely recovered. The doctor afterwards told me it was nothing short of the power of God that had saved my own and my baby's life, adding that he could not possibly have done so.
