Total Victory

The term "total war," now in such general use, is understood to mean the devotion by a nation or group of nations of all its energies and resources to the total defeat of an enemy nation or group of nations. Total was, as understood in Christian Science, is nothing less than the utilization of the infinite power of God to spiritualize the thought of individuals, and hence of nations, and to annul material and sinful belief.

It is obvious that this sort of warfare against error has been going on for a long period of time. Championed by Christ Jesus nearly two thousand years ago, it has continued with greater or less intensity ever since. It was given new impetus in the latter part of the nineteenth century, when Mary Baker Eddy revealed to the world her discovery of the Science of Christianity, practiced and taught this divine method of healing and redemption, wrote and published her great textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other works, and founded her church, known as The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, which with its branch churches and various activities constitutes the Christian Science movement. This movement has grown to great proportions and is a powerful factor for good in the world today, for it is governed by infinite Mind, eternal Truth, all-embracing Love, all-powerful divine Principle, and its activities are carried on in accordance with the Church Manual, written by Mrs. Eddy.

Christian Scientists know that in this spiritually mental struggle, as Paul declared, "We do not war after the flesh: for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." Our real weapons are spiritual ideas, which derive their power from the infinite source of power, and these ideas cast out material beliefs, in other words, prove them to be unreal.
