Many are the blessings that I have received from Christian Science. My first healing, which occurred before I had read any of Mrs. Eddy's works, was of severe burns. The pain was so intense that when I was asked if I desired Christian Science help I assented. The healing was quick and complete, but although I gave all the credit to Christian Science, I was too much satisfied with ease in matter to make the effort to study. Two years later, during a shortage of nurses, I was called upon to help in an influenza epidemic. After spending several days and nights helping those suffering from the disease, I manifested all its symptoms and was ordered to bed. As I knew no Christian Scientists in the vicinity I telegraphed for treatment, and in a few hours was completely well.

This healing awakened me to the need of showing my gratitude by trying to learn of Truth and make it my own. A much better position was offered me in a community where there was a Christian Science church, and my progress was aided by friends and by attendance at church services. Soon after becoming a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church I moved to a section of the country where there were few Christian Scientists, and I was forced to rely on my own understanding of God for healing and happiness. During this time the Christian Science periodicals were of great help.

Our Leader says in Science and Health (p. 296), "Either here or here after, suffering or Science must destroy all illusions regarding life and mind, and regenerate material sense and self." At a time of great suffering and sorrow, when four members of the family passed on in a few hours, and our home was destroyed, I again turned to Christian Science, and was healed of grief and shock. Then began a period of striving to "regenerate material sense and self" and of knowing that God is the support of my two children and me. I was able to get back into a profession which I had left fifteen years before. It took several years for a healing of asthma to be complete, but during that time I learned much of God and of man's relation to Him.
