Spiritual Freedom

Christian Science has given to the world, through its spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures, the blessed assurance that all the children of God are equally blessed. We should not question this great truth of real being, even though the evidence of the material senses seems otherwise. The record of creation, including man in the image and likeness of God, has never changed.

Through the ages men have been held in subjection, slavery, imprisonment, and servitude to an unreal power. On page 227 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has written: "Discerning the rights of man, we cannot fail to foresee the doom of all oppression. Slavery is not the legitimate state of man. God made man free." This truth revealed to our Leader opens wide the prison doors, that the radiancy of God's presence may penetrate the human consciousness and dispel the mists of doubt, depression, fear, discouragement, confusion—all the entanglements of mortal mind. These errors are proved to be unreal and powerless when the great truth is realized that man is spiritual, subject only to the power of God, abiding in His tender and ceaseless care. There is but one Mind, one God. His kingdom is here and everywhere, spiritual, perfect, and intact, now and forever.

Christian Science has unveiled the truth about God and His creation. Among the synonyms for God are Spirit, Truth, and Principle. A logical conclusion is that creation is wholly spiritual and perfect, the emanation of divine Mind. Therefore the real man is the eternal expression of God. In the degree that we become conscious of spiritual existence, and abandon the belief in a universe and man as material, will this true sense of being be made manifest in experience.
