I am deeply grateful for all the...
I am deeply grateful for all the blessings that have come into my life through the study of Christian Science. For a few years I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School in a branch church and was at that time freed to a great extent from the fear of disease and belief in material remedies, and since then Christian Science has been my only physician. However, my trust in Truth has been severely tested on many other points, and at times I have seemed unable to rise above my difficulties. I even reached a point where I was ready to give it all up. In my despair I surrendered all human will and reached out to God, imploring Him to show me the way. Opening "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy I found the following passage (p. 326): "Saul of Tarsus beheld the way—the Christ, or Truth—only when his uncertain sense of right yielded to a spiritual sense, which is always right. Then the man was changed." Then my eyes were opened too, and I caught a glimpse of our impersonal Saviour, Christ, which is wholly from above. I was lifted up and gained the courage to live and to demonstrate this ever-present Christ, our true spiritual selfhood.
After this experience I was gradually led out of all sorts of limitations, extreme self-centeredness, shyness, fear of making decisions, a limited sense of supply, and so on. And if ever I am tempted to believe in evil again, I know the way out of the illusion now and need not yield to discouragement. I am also very grateful for the better human relationships that have been brought about through an increased understanding of God as our Father-Mother, the divine Principle, Love.
My gratitude goes out to God; to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower; and to Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, through whom this final revelation of Truth was given to the world. I am grateful too for the wonderful wisdom that led our Leader to ordain the Bible and Science and Health as our impersonal pastor, and to give us our Church Manual and our periodicals, including our daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, the reading of which has been a great help to me in acquiring a broader outlook and a better understanding of my fellow men.
