I took up Christian Science, not...
I took up Christian Science, not for physical healing, but out of curiosity. A friend seemed to radiate joy and love and unselfishness, and when I found that she was a student of Christian Science I decided to investigate it.
I had been reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for only about three weeks when I experienced a very severe attack of bronchial asthma, from which I had suffered since babyhood. This was an opportunity to test the efficacy of the healing power of Christian Science. A member of my family asked my friend how we should proceed. She told me to read the first chapter in our textbook, entitled "Prayer," and meanwhile she would do some work for me. After reading this chapter through once, I fell asleep. That was about ten o'clock in the morning; at four o'clock I awoke completely free. Anyone who has suffered from that disease will understand the joy my family and I felt. I arose, dressed, and that night attended a party which I had supposed I must miss. All other attacks had lasted from two to three weeks or longer, with many distressing symptoms. This healing took place over twenty years ago and has been permanent.
I was also wonderfully protected about seven years ago in an automobile accident. The car which I was driving was turned over violently, but I climbed out, declaring all the time that accidents are unknown in God's kingdom. The car was righted, and I was able to drive it home. On arriving there I found myself much bruised in the ribs and chest, breathing was difficult, and there was a sense of nervous shock. With the help of a faithful Christian Science practitioner, I was quite free in three days.
