Rejoicing in Truth

Mortals must take Christian Science healing on its own terms. They expect to solve a problem in multiplication by working according to the multiplication tables in order to gain the correct answer. They do not waste time in rebelling against these rules, nor do they complain because the rules cannot be altered. Yet frequently someone asks why the solution to this or that problem is not reached through Christian Science, although one may be mentally rebelling against or even actively disobeying the divine rules of health and harmony. These rules must be learned, and obeyed as they are learned.

Those who seek healing cannot begin or continue to progress in Christian Science if they desire to be rid only of those difficulties which mortal sense agrees are undesirable, such as mental and physical suffering, limitation, fear, and so forth. They must diligently and rejoicingly strive to put off also those false and likewise limiting beliefs which seem to be valuable or delightful to the senses.

Christian Science is the revelation of the glory and goodness of God and of the relationship of man and the universe to Him. Man is one with God. He is not a separate being, imploring God to send His blessings on him. The sunshine has no need to ask the sun for light and heat. By its very nature it expresses the sun, and thus brightens and warms the earth. "Man is the expression of Soul," Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 477). So man rejoices in and forever expresses the qualities of his divine source.
