While I was visiting in Seattle nineteen years ago, a friend strongly advised me to buy a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for I was in very poor health and needed help to sustain me in making my journey to my home in Alberta, Canada, with a small baby girl and a lively three-year-old son. She also took me to a Christian Science lecture and a church service, which seemed like heaven to me. I was ready for Truth, having followed doctor's prescriptions, exercise, and diet for several years without benefit, in an effort to regain health and strength following a nervous collapse. Nervous indigestion, bilious headaches, and constipation were overcome that winter through my quiet, earnest study of our textbook, and I began to feel well and strong.

Before the winter was over, the baby developed a very bad cough and kidney trouble and was placed under the care of a physician. When, after several weeks, there was no improvement, the doctor said we had better try a change of climate. At this point I discovered that there were Christian Science practitioners, and that a neighbor of our's was one. She took the baby's case, and the next morning there was clear evidence of the healing of the kidneys. In a short time the child was entirely well. This was a remarkable healing. Learning that there was a Christian Science Society in the neighborhood, I attended the next Wednesday evening meeting and gave my testimony, expressing my gratitude for all the blessings which Christian Science had brought. A wonderful sense of harmony remained with me for several days after that.

During the following years many problems arose, including one of unemployment, and we moved, in the hope of improving our opportunities. I had joined The Mother Church and a branch church, so there was much inspiration and encouragement given me during this time.
