Many years ago I suffered from a serious breakdown in health, and my right arm became useless. I was attended by well-known doctors in London, who did all they possibly could for me. I shall always be grateful for their kindness and interest, but it was of no avail.

Because I am a professional violinist, the arm trouble was a very serious matter, for it entirely prevented me from playing the violin. The condition persisted for many months, and I despaired of ever getting well again and being able to follow my musical career.

It was at this time of great need that Christian Science was presented to me and I was willing to listen, though I had no faith in it. I attended the church services and purchased and read with much enthusiasm the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In my zeal I expected to be healed very quickly; then, in a more humble state of mind, I tried to understand the meaning of the passage on page 111 of our textbook, "Mind governs the body, not partially but wholly." I began to see that it was mortal mind that needed to be healed; that freedom was possible only through right thinking and living. Persevering in this way I became more hopeful, and gradually regained normal health; the arm became free and strong, and has remained so ever since. Christian Science had changed my whole outlook on life. Fear was lessened as I learned more of God, and of man made in His image and likeness.
