"He careth for you"

A young girl once asked her mother what had been the happiest experience of her life, expecting to hear a recital of some pleasant happening or the attaining of some desired goal. To her astonishment the mother, who was a student of Christian Science, replied that undoubtedly she had experienced her happiest moment early in her study of Christian Science when, facing what appeared to be great danger, she had, through the understanding of God's ever-presence and omnipotence, by placing herself entirely in His care, instantly found herself safe from the danger, and her life preserved. Surely no greater happiness could come to one than through such confidence in the loving care of the heavenly Father, confidence in His presence and power. Herein lies a joy which transcends all material happiness, and outweighs any fearful belief in an evil power opposed to God.

When danger seems to threaten; when misunderstanding, opposition, and persecution seem rife; when disease and pain would steal away hope; when discouragement and weariness would stay the joyous onward march, when one seems a stranger in a barren land, then no wiser counsel could fall upon one's heart than the words of Peter, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."

"For he careth for you"! Peter could give this comforting assurance, for he had walked with Christ Jesus during his healing ministry. He had seen God's care manifested in the feeding of the hungry, the healing of the sick, and the raising of the dead. And he had had proof in his own experience of God's presence and His tender care for His children. When he was in prison, bound with chains, and closely guarded by soldiers, the chains fell away, the prison gates opened, and he was led to a place of safety. Could Peter doubt that it was the hand of God which had brought him forth?
