Thirty-four years ago I was healed of the liquor habit through Christian Science treatment. I had what is called delirium tremens and was not expected to live. A doctor had been called and medicine prescribed, but my wife sent for my mother, who was a Christian Scientist, and she had Christian Science treatment for me. Truth healed me, and the bottle of medicine which the doctor had left was on the dresser unopened. I was very grateful to be healed, for I had wanted for a long time to quit the drinking habit. I am also very thankful for the healing, during a church service, of the tobacco habit.

Later I was involved in three lawsuits, and had employed two sets of lawyers and a Christian Science practitioner. The litigation continued for three years. Finally, the date for the hearing of the case was set, and that morning I went to see the practitioner. She said: "We have applied the truth; we have finished the work. Now stand." Then she opened our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, to page 495 and read to me, "Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony."

When the case was called, through the alertness of my lawyer it was settled out of court for ten per cent less than was asked, and everyone was satisfied. My lawyer remarked that he did not know what made him act as quickly as he had done, but I knew it was because "the Word of God is . . . sharper than any twoedged sword."
