Some time ago I lived in a mining town in Arizona

Some time ago I lived in a mining town in Arizona. During one of the summer months an epidemic of typhoid fever broke out. My two children were taken ill, and a physician said the trouble was typhoid fever. Several prescriptions were left and were filled.

A friend had given me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I had been reading daily. Though several in our immediate neighborhood had succumbed to this sickness, I was still well, and I went to the bedside of my children and talked to them about Christian Science and about relying on God for our help, rather than on any material remedy. The medicine was thrown out, and the next day both children were up and well.

The reading of Science and Health healed me of fear, though I did not realize this at the time. With the giving up of all material remedies, I was healed of a chronic condition of stomach and bowels, because of which I had been a slave to medicine for many years. This healing took place over twenty-five years ago, and there has been no return of the trouble. Recently, in looking at that which we used to call our "all-round remedy chest," I thought how grateful we can be to Mrs. Eddy for our healing of the medicine habit, from which thousands of others today have been freed.
