With the humble desire in my heart to do my duty, I add...
With the humble desire in my heart to do my duty, I add my testimony to the continuous paean of praise appearing in the Christian Science Sentinel.
An outstanding healing, the memory of which remains continually to inspire and teach me, came early in my experience. It was the healing of my eyes. At that time I was working in a responsible position as a linotype operator at a premium wage. My eyes had become so painful that I could not sleep at night, but would continually get up and bathe them. I had worn glasses for fifteen years for what the oculist had pronounced to be astigmatism. I had listened to testimonies of healing through Christian Science at the Wednesday evening meetings, and I knew that I, too, could be healed. The day came when, after much prayer and trust in God, I was guided to a practitioner, and received a Christian Science treatment. Citations from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy were given me to read, one of which was (p. 89), "We are all capable of more than we do." As I left the practitioner's office, I asked what must have been a surprising question: "When will I have my healing?" And I am grateful for the consecrated answer, "You have it now."
The next morning at business I automatically reached for my glasses, but the Christ, Truth, began to voice itself to me; and I repeated, "I have my healing now." The physical senses declared, "You cannot see." I continued to affirm: "I have my healing now. I am capable of more than I do." Then I would acknowledge: "I praise Thee, Father-Mother God, and I thank Thee; I have my healing now. I am capable of more than I do." Hour after hour, for eight hours, I continued to acknowledge and praise God, and to affirm my healing. Although much of the copy that day was penciled manuscript and six-point reprint, I finished the day without using the glasses and have never used them since. At the end of that day, for the first time in the years of my employment with that firm, I received a compliment on my work.
