Enlightened Understanding

[Written Especially for Young People]

A Young woman, not long out of college, found employment in a small business concern, where she was expected to do a number of different things, including book-keeping. Happiness in her work and sincere gratitude for it made each responsibility that was given her a deeply appreciated opportunity for progress.

At the end of the first month she got ready to balance her books. She had had little experience in this kind of work, and as she faced the columns of figures, fear entered her thinking, and having gained an entrance, sought to dominate it. Over and over again she checked her accounts; and over and over again they failed to balance. At last she asked for help from one who understood bookkeeping. A mistake was soon discovered. It was corrected, and a perfect balance was quickly achieved.

What became of the mistake? What became of ignorance in the presence of knowledge? It did not exist. It was not real or true; it simply vanished into nothingness in the light of understanding.
