Commercial Appeal

Permit me to thank you for your recent editorial concerning the suppression of organized Christian Science activities in Nazi Germany. The world seems slow to learn, yet history shows that every attempt to destroy the truth results in its further spread. Men have vainly tried to stop the march of Christianity by making bonfires of Bibles, only ultimately to see their efforts fail before the light of the flames which their own prejudice and bigotry had kindled. Christian Science wars not with men, but with systems. Mrs. Eddy has said (Science and Health, p. 186), "If mortal mind knew how to be better, it would be better." Knowing this, we can with calm assurance wait until this "mortal mind" has had its fleeting day. In the meantime, it is encouraging to see a growing tendency on the part of molders of opinion, like the Commercial Appeal, to praise righteous endeavors wherever found.
