In certain recent issues some favorable remarks were made about the healing work of Christian Science. However, the quotations from Mrs. Eddy's book "Rudimental Divine Science" were used without due regard to their context, so that your readers may get the impression that Christian Science is connected with healing through suggestion. This is not the case.

In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 411), "The procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin." In order to heal sickness, these false beliefs must be destroyed by a realization of their unreality.

Christ Jesus healed the sick and reformed the sinner by spiritual means, and Mrs. Eddy points out in her writings that these two functions of practical Christianity are indissolubly associated with each other. He who is conscious of the all-power and all-presence of God, good, realizes that "perfect love casteth out fear;" he who has come to know the truth, learns that the truth makes free; he who has been freed through Christian Science from the snares of sin, learns also that "the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up."
