It is with sincere gratitude that I can testify to the healing power of Christian Science. Over five years ago, while I was a guest at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where I had gone seeking the Christ-healing, I found myself one evening deeply interested in reading the chapter entitled, "The Great Revelation," beginning on page 59 of "Retrospection and Introspection" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read something on page 61 of the article that embedded itself deep in my consciousness. There Mrs. Eddy states: "Christian Science declares that sickness is a belief, a latent fear, made manifest on the body in different forms of fear or disease. This fear is formed unconsciously in the silent thought, as when you awaken from sleep and feel ill, experiencing the effect of a fear whose existence you do not realize; but if you fall asleep, actually conscious of the truth ofChristian Science,—namely, that man's harmony is no more to be invaded than the rhythm of the universe,—you cannot awake in fear or suffering of any sort."
I studied and pondered this quotation far into the night, finally falling asleep; and I awoke a few hours later, realizing that healing was on the way and that nothing could stop it. I was filled with confidence and expectation. This attitude of mind continued into the third day, at which time I knew I was completely healed, at one with God, Truth, Love. Grateful conviction filled my heart. The trouble had been arthritis. I had been all but carried into the Sanatorium a few weeks before.
Words cannot express my gratitude to God, to Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, to the practitioners, and to those in charge of the Sanatorium for their loving attention and care during this experience. It is my sincere hope that others struggling with this difficulty may take courage and realize that we can obey Mrs. Eddy's admonition on page 393 of Science and Health: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
