A recent copy of your interesting periodical has come to my notice in which an inaccurate reference is made to the teachings of Christian Science.

No form of pretense enters into the teaching of Christian Science. Jesus had no need to "pretend" when controlling the stormy elements and walking on the waves of the sea. He understood spiritual law, and this enabled him to prove his dominion over all forms of fear, danger, and restriction. He utilized this divine law and encouraged his followers to depend upon it, chiding Peter for doubting the power of this spiritual law. The Bible declares that God gave man "dominion ... over all the earth." Jesus understood and used this dominion, and students of Christian Science are learning to recognize and understand this invariable law.

A car designer, understanding the law of mathematics, does not use pretense in this connection; neither is he afraid that this law will be absent as he uses it. Motor engineers have no need to "pretend" concerning the production of the parts from the blueprints, because they understand those prints and follow them in every detail. So it is with Christian Scientists. To the extent that they understand God's invariable spiritual law of protection are they able to use this law.
