In 1933 my mother's testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel
In 1933 my mother's testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel. Her healing of paralysis interested my brother and me in Christian Science and led us to attend the Christian Science Sunday School, where we gained such a deep love for God that we eagerly sought to apply the truth we were learning about Him and His creation to everything large or small in our experience. Because of this willingness to look to God continually for all good, as we were taught in Christian Science, we have been protected through these years.
After two years of college, and having reached the age of dismissal from the Sunday school, I decided to stay out of college the next year for more time to study Christian Science and prepare for class instruction. I was accepted for class, and the following school year re-entered the university. When taking the required physical examination, I noticed that on my previous health report I had been marked down as having small valvular heart murmurings, a condition which had not been mentioned to me then, but the doctor on this examination wrote across my whole record, "Normal." Thus I was healed of a condition of which I did not know until after the healing, but which is still on the university's records.
Another experience brought a lesson. One summer, while I was bathing I noticed a growth on one of my feet. It did not hurt, and the truth was declared, which kept it from spreading. But as it persisted for almost a year, I realized that I should take my stand as a Christian Scientist by denying error's claims. Not knowing what it was, I thought that it should be diagnosed. Immediately the healing thought came that a diagnosis is material knowledge, and that the only truth is the truth about God and His creation. In three days it completely disappeared. I have also been healed of colds and headaches.
