New Orleans States

New Orleans, Louisiana (Third Church).—Dedication ceremonies of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, New Orleans, erected at 2338 Fern Street, in 1932, were conducted at morning, afternoon, and evening services, on Sunday, April 14, 1940.

According to regulations of the Christian Science denomination, a church edifice cannot be dedicated until it is free from debt. All indebtedness on the property was canceled on March 13, 1940, it was announced.

Work toward the formation of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, New Orleans, began in 1930, when Christian Scientists of the city realized the growing need of another church in the city. First services of the new church were held at its original location, 4635 Canal Street, on January 11, 1931. Official recognition was given the branch church by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. Title to the property was secured on December 29, 1932.—New Orleans States.
