About nine years ago, while in a most miserable mental state, I was led to take up Christian Science. Uppermost in my thought for many years before this was the feeling that there must be a God, and that to know Him aright would satisfy and bring me peace.
For some time I had been an active worker in an orthodox church, but this did not satisfy me or release me from a dreadful fear that beset me day and night. So dense was the cloud of darkness which seemed to engulf me that when I first began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy I could not understand a word that I read. Several times I put the book aside, but became so miserable that I would try to read it again. Finally the light began to dawn, and it continues to grow brighter and brighter. Through Science much has been overcome in my life. I have had to face violent opposition to Christian Science by those closely associated with me, but I rejoice to say that I have grown under it, and my former unhappy condition has almost completely disappeared.
Too numerous to relate have been my healings through Christian Science. Wasp stings were healed in a few seconds; an ankle, which had been badly sprained, was healed in a few minutes; also a severe cut, which left hardly a trace of a scar; a sore throat was instantaneously healed while I was reading a Sentinel, and a very painful abscess disappeared in about four hours from the time the pain started. I am very grateful that with the help of a Christian Science practitioner fear was destroyed and a wonderful sense of fortitude maintained during a trying experience. At times like this we appreciate the value of practitioners, who are always ready and able to help us over the steep places.
