Some years ago a physical difficulty called fibroid tumor...
Some years ago a physical difficulty called fibroid tumor presented itself to me. After listening to a doctor's verdict, I decided that Christian Science should be my physician. Treatment was asked from a practitioner of Christian Science, whose testimony, which I had heard several years previously, contained a statement from our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 209): "Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God." The manner in which this statement was expressed made a definite impression on me. I knew that a right understanding of God was what I needed. The meaning of the one hundred and thirty-ninth Psalm in the light of Christian Science was a revelation to me. The healing was instanteous, although I was not at once aware of it. On leaving the practitioner's office I said that I would stop in again in a few days. Very lovingly I was told that a visit would be welcome, but further treatment was unnecessary. In half an hour's time, after returning to my office, I learned how true that statement was, and I joyfully telephoned the practitioner that the offending error had passed from me. I was completely healed.
Shortly after this experience we witnessed the beautiful healing of my mother. A physician told us that there was nothing he could do, and that the end would be a matter of hours, because her heart and age were against her. We telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner that evening, and work was taken up immediately. I left for business in the morning, believing that I would be called home any moment, but endeavoring to know that God is Life, that beliefs of age and a failing heart are unknown to Him, and that nothing but good could be manifested. The temptation to telephone and inquire about her was silenced. I left the office earlier than usual, however, and on my arrival home I found my mother up, fully dressed, and sitting out on the sun porch reading a Christian Science Sentinel. Joy overwhelmed me, and my mother said, "I learned today that God is my strength, and 'underneath are the everlasting arms.'" Ten days later she accompanied us on a twelve-hundred-mile motor trip.
Through our honest application of Christian Science, many healings have been experienced of ills such as severe backache, skin irritation, and sore throat.
