A Christian Science period in the Columbia "Church of the Air" series was conducted from Station WCAU, Philadelphia, Sunday, July 28, 1940, at twelve noon (Eastern Standard Time), by Mrs. Elsie Garton. This program was presented under the auspices of the Committee on Publication for Pennsylvania, with the approval of The Christian Science Board of Directors. Mr. John Vandersloot, soloist, was assisted by Mr. Charles J. Dryfuse, organist.

The program opened with Hymn No. 161 in the Christian Science Hymnal, the words of which were written by Mary Baker Eddy. Then Mrs. Garton read selections from the Bible as follows: Isaiah 11:1—4 (to:), 6, 9; II Peter 1:2—8; Proverbs 3:13—19; Jeremiah 9:23, 24; and from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Heatlh with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: 234:4—24; 275:10—26; 323:6—16; 322:3—13; 505:16—25.
