More than thirty years ago, I visited an aunt and cousins...
More than thirty years ago, I visited an aunt and cousins on the Texas border. Upon arrival I found that this aunt was a Christian Scientist. At the time I was a very sick person. I became convinced by the lives of my Christian Science friends there that they had something which I wished to have. I received many healings while there, bought my first copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and began to read it. This enabled me to take up my work again. I was greatly blessed by reading the textbook. Later, when I came into a home of my own, I withdrew my membership from an orthodox church, of which I had been a member since early childhood, and united with The Mother Church. I was greatly sustained by Christian Science through many trials and proved to my satisfaction the efficacy of its teaching. A longing for church affiliation was met when a few Scientists moved to my town, and we banded together and held services for several years. Then, when they went away, I united with the branch church in Lake Charles, Louisiana. It has been my privilege since to do what I can to promote its welfare.
A deeper appreciation of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has come to me from a larger and fuller understanding of Truth. I am most grateful for the many proofs that I have had of this demonstrable religion. There have been healings of physical troubles, and freedom from human worries and distrust of my fellow man.
I wish to tell especially of a demonstration over a false sense of responsibility for a loved one, who was alone on an isolated farm, far from any human association. In his loneliness he appealed to me to help him find a way out of this situation. Feeling responsible, as mortals are often prone to do, I tried every way humanly to help him out of his trouble, but with no success. Realizing that mere human efforts were of no avail, we then turned to God, knowing that He alone could help, and thanked Him for His wonderful love and care for His children. It is needless to say that the case was healed. There came a family to this home seeking just what the loved one had to offer. From a grateful heart there came the joyous message that God had answered our prayers and all were blessed.
